Right now i have a 250w hqi and 4x65w pcs for a total of 510w. but the setup looks sloppy as they are separate units. I was thinking of going with one 48in hqi/t5 setup, a 6bulb t5 setup, or a 4 bulb VHO. the last two will have individual reflectors of course. what do you guys think? the tank is a 50g 48x18x12 and has softies, lps, and sps. eventually going to go with way more sps, just dont have enough halide viewing real estate right now.lol
and along with the choice of lighting, what brands would you recommend? i also do not have a canopy, so retrofits are out unless i can figure a way to make a mounting bracket for it

12" tall? i would not go 250 watt mh even if it was 18" tall i would still go 150watt mh or all t5's

250 will work, the reasoning for 150 watt hqi is that for full coverage you will need two mh's... with two 250's you might have a problem with heat.. 500 watts compared to 300 watts and that is just mh not actinics and sps do not like temp fluctuations or high heat

if it were my tank i would go with either a six or eight bulb t5 setup....but if you want that shimmer go two 150's and t5's for actinics....get two good fans on blowing across the top and one across your sump

i have a box fan blowing across the top of the tank and my temp runs at around 78-80 with the halide and pcs. i do think that 2 250s might be a little much for the 50g though
