Lifereef protein skimmer comments - formerly 'proclear aquatic skimmer?'

[Wasn't sure if this was the right place to put this or not, but I was wondering if anyone has an opinion of the ProClear Aquatic skimmers? I'm currently running a Jebo 2003 model that does an ok job, but tends to pull more water than it should. Of course, my auto top-off adds water as it goes out and after about a week or so, my SG takes a nose dive.

Here is a pic of the one I'm looking at:

I believe it's rated for up to a 250 gal setup. Seeing as I'm only running 55 + 35 gal sump, it should more than suffice.

Thanks in advance!]

[Ya know, I've asked about this thing on 3 different sites now, nobody has an answer! I know the sell them at Boutique Pet Shop, not sure where else.

Does it even look like it would be worth $100? (pump included)]

[I've never used one, and don't know anyone that has.

"You get what you pay for" comes to mind. :lookaround:]

[I have that exact one sitting behind me in my old sump right now doing nothing. Pulls to much water. plus it uses a RIO.
For the skimmer don't be cheap.
Remora or aquaC does great.

I would sell it to ya but don't want to make an enemy out of you hot pockets. :laugh long:]

[I was given this skimmer buy a person who got out of the hobby. It is a poor excuse for a skimmer, I even upgraded it to a maxijet and never got much skim.]

[Ok, I'll take this one as a no sale! The Remora looks interesting, but I don't care much for a HOT and would perfer to put something in the sump. Guess I'll keep looking!

Thanks for the input.]

[Thanks for the tips! I'll check RC. I know the urchin the the remora have good reviews, but I would like to push more GPH than they are designed for. I also plan to upgrade to a larger tank in the near future, and want a skimmer that can keep up with the new tank too.]

[If you want bigger than a Remora get an AquaC EV series or one of the Euroreef BLEMS.

I just bought a used EV-180 on RC and saved almost $200 vs buying it new.]

[I have a friend who owns a local fish store and he called on the blems and they said they don't work as well as new ones. Like everyone says you get what you pay for and if you are getting a discount on the blems then there is more wrong than just a ugly glue spot. I plan on getting an ASM skimmer. I just need to find the right unit to get for a 90 gallon. Thinking the g-1x but don't know if I should try to overpower with a larger one.]

[Chris,
I would go with the biggest one that would fit under the stand.

The Aqua C 120 that I have barely fits as I have it outside the sump and the exit valve barley fit over the edge of the sump wall.
They say not to plumb it up and over the wall and I have no room in the sump area with 3 MAG pumps in there.
But it fit perfectly. Just an FYI if planning to it outside of the sump.]

[I've decided not to skimp on my new skimmer, although, I haven't figured out exactly what to get yet. I'm going to tap into my "mad money" that I have sitting in PayPal :p

I'll either let you guys know what I decide to get, or be back with more questions!]

[Ok, next question. I've heard some pretty good stuff about Euro-reef skimmers. What's the opinion here?

I'm looking and it seems that they are a bit on the expensive side for the capacity they are able to handle..hrmm]

[Thanks for the links! I actually came across a used Urchin on ebay going for a low price. If I manage to pick this one up for under $70, then I'll use it until I upgrade.

If not, I'm thinking either the EV120 or the G2-X (this will handle the future tank nicely).

Right now, I'm sitting here, looking at my tank and frowning on the cyano that seems to be coming back. Thought I was rid of that stuff..yuck!

I'll keep ya posted!]

[The search goes on.....

What the heck kind of skimmer is this beast? Anybody know? It apparently runs on 2 rio 2100 pumps which seems like a bit excessive. It's going for a decent price, otherwise, I wouldn't consider it.

[Let me know if I drive you guys insane....

Next question, LifeReef Vs2-24

I noticed Marc uses a LifeReef skimmer, this one (not the one pictured above) is going for a good price with a Mag 9.5 pump, Mazzei injector and drain kit. What do ya think?]
