[On reeftopia.com they recommend lettuce nudibranch for hair algae. So here's my question are these things lunch in a 140 gallon tank with very tempered fish and a flow rate of 1200gph????]

[I tried two of them and they did not eat my hair algae and both died in about a weeks time. Some people have good luck with them but I did not.

Dennis]

[I bought one and it is still around after couple weeks.

I know Joe had them before, it multipled from 1 to 5 pieces. I forgot how he lost them eventually.

It seems to be eating some algae.]

[Sorry, Peter, something tells me you have minutes not even hours or days before those nudibranches come up missing :(]

[From what I have read most will only eat Bryopsis and for sure they do not survive well in our high current SPS tanks!

If you have a low flow tank I think they would be a good option!]

[They specifically eat bryopsis and will starve in a tank without it. And based on what I know of your tank they would NOT fare well due to the high current. They are very delicate.

I had two. One met the powerhead within a week. The other did very well, ate only the bryopsis, and I passed him on to another club member (Glenn, actually) who had bryopsis.

For hair algae, my bi-color blenny works like a charm.]

[Found my nudibranch again today. I bought it on Dec-12, so it's alive for more than 2 weeks now. I do have green hair-algae in my tank to keep it happy.]

[Update on nudibranch, cute little thing stretch out on the glass eating algae. I took a picture, so to show you that nudibranch is very hardy.]

[It would be interesting to know the life span of nudibranch. It's a cute invert to have in an sps tank. I know 1 month is not long enough to speak of - but I was told hours, days. This is compared to some fish that last a few days.]

[I have one that I was pretty sure had died. It took a trip thru the overflow thru the LR rubble in the fuge and its body looked pretty mangled. About a month later I was trimming back some chaeto and lo and behold, my nudibranch is at the top of my fuge just eating away. I was pleasantly surprised.]

[I got one from reeftopia just to see if it would help on the scattered clumps of algae, and to see if I could keep it alive.
Don't know about longevity, but this is what it looks like after a couple of weeks.

So far so good. Can't say that I have noticed any difference in the algae, but it is still alive and pretty active. Roams all over the tank, glass, and overflow boxes.]

[Doc, could I use that image on my ID page?]

[Absolutely. I actually have about 5 or 6 pics of it I will send you and you can choose whichever one you want to use if you like.]
