One of the reasons I've never kept them is because I would have to provide them with new shells. Which isnt expensive, but I dont like the look of empty shells littering my sand bed, and its impossible for me to know exactly when I need to put empty shells in the tank (other then the obvious fighting or predating). But its time for me to put aside my differences with hermits and shove a few in my tank. I can't deny that they are effective at what they do.
I see a big variety of hermits on the market. Red legs, blue, white, and everything in between. From what I read, they all seem to feed on algae and left overs. I was intrigued by the white legs on saltwaterfish because they stay small, and it would limit me worrying about replacing there homes.
Other then size differences between different species of hermits, is there anything I should keep in mind when shopping? Are some types of hermits more industrious then others?
Thanks for your help.
