Has any one used Led's for the fuge like this:

Any thoughts...my fuge is in an open cabinet and I am looking for a more pleasant to the eye light than my spot light (not so bright in the white spectrum).

Not sure if these lights will grow the right stuff or not..any thoughts?

Thanks!

For the price might be worth some experimenting, but it seems to be very red to me... It's designed for, er... terrestrial plants... Not marine algae...

That, and I'm sure you noticed, but the specific one you linked to is a 240 volt item...

the other was this...

http://cgi.ebay.com/225-WHITE-LED-Aquarium-Grow-Light-Panel-110-Volt_W0QQitemZ200238951112QQihZ010QQcategoryZ46314QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

and yes I missed the 240v part.

I am having an amp problem..I have a 210 in the middle of the room on one 15amp floor plug. 13.8 watts (.12 amps) is a big improvement on a 100 watt bulb (.86 amps). seems like a little bit different, but every bit counts when you start popping the breaker.

I guess my real question is what light color is best for marine algae?

TIA

not worth the money imho. They are low light led's like the 5mm type. You could potentially make your own for a little more and run lumileds. Untill my tranny went out I was going to make a led light system for my 265 but the same concept could still apply if you want i could walk you thru it or make one for you for a price. Not trying to make a buck but my time is still valuable to me. But i will draw you up a schematic for free and tell you were to get it all.

These are in the 6000-7000K range and should be fine. I have seen some of these with some blue LEDs.

this is a better one but he is out at this time..

Depends on what you want and how big is your fuge section. I have a 58g that is fuge only which is the same footprint as a 50 but if you fuge section is smaller than it would be less. I would say that it could be done for under a hundred but depends on how bright you want it. 1 k2 w/tffc at rated amperage puts out 160 lm and 220 over driven to 1.5x amperage. They are expensive if you dont buy at least 5 and they are still 4.75 a piece at that but 10 only cost 4.35 add some blues in a power supply and a current limiter which is made by components by me then a heatsink and a case made from acrylic or wood. Still for a small system wouldnt be that bad. you could get some serious light output though and not add any heat.
