LED question

Im in the middle of ordering all my stuff to upgrade to LED on my BioCube 29 gallon. The thing that is hanging me up is the dimmer switch that has to be built. Has anyone here made the jump yet, and how did you handle the dimmer? I have ordered the Meanwell 60-48D's, just waiting for them to show up. Im torn also on just buying the heat sink and drilling/tapping myself, or spending $30 more to have it already done from another site.

I bit the bullet and just got the one that was already cut to size - Figured it wasnt worth the time to do it myself, since I dont have the tools. Depending on Hong Kong shipping though with my 13 Q5's for $4.36 each, I should have everything here on Saturday - then I plan on burning the midnight oil and having it done! But HK is the hold up right now :(

I will give you some warning, I got a new Fluval Edge (freshwater tank for the gf) and it runs on two LEDs, those suckers burn HOT. I was incredibly surprised at the amount of heat just two LEDs put off in that 6G tank.

The heat should be off the back of the LED though, and not towards the tank? Which is fine, since I am attaching the LED's to an aluminum heatsink and running fans on it.

the edge does not come with LED's , they are Halogens. I converted mine to LED's to cut down on the amount of heat. best change i could have made, i also added a jbj ocean pusle wave timer with two small powerheads . great pico reef tank

I used buckpucks instead of meanwells so they cam pre wired for a potentomenter. Radio shack has an assortment of them. Adjustable is the way to go especially for acclimating new coral that may not be ready for 100%.

Im building a LM317 circuit to allow my meanwells to dim - even got the cool old skool dials found on radios from the 70/80's. Apparently, without a 10v input, the meanwell D drivers wont even turn on, so its kinda important :) Just wish I had the money for one of those controllers that would do a sunrise/set automagically for me.
