Led build for 54 corner bow.. =D

I been setting this up since i got the tank from frankthetank and he's been wanting to see pics but here is the led lighting assembled... i'm still waiting for the acrylic housing to be made by regal plastics but should be in a week.. but i got pics of the whites cause i still gotta wire up the meanwells for the blues need 2 more pc power cords.. shouldn't be hard to find... but not only that i've been telling everyone that i'm getting the leds from china and compared to the crees i have they are the same if not brighter... i've been running cree xr-e's on my biocube 29 since september and i can assure you all the doubts about growth and not being able to keep sps are gone.. i've been growing a mixed variety of sps and lps and softies in ma bc29 and my friend is using mh and now trying t5's and i'm pretty even with him.. the monti's even thou people say they can take the light i find if i put them anywhere but on the sandbed they bleach.. the lps's and the softies kindof need to be shaded as the leds are far much brighter then the mh's out there and definitely brighter then t5's... but below are the pics and these are also running with out the lenses... after i complete this diy project i'm going to program a arduino controller to make a fully programmable reef setup.. from wavemaker to sunrise and sunset (a true sunrise and sunset.. starting from 5% and go up in increments of 5% every 10 minutes till about 60% at first... then gradually work my way up to max if needed for acclimation) and to control water top off and shutoff in case of floods and other various things.. it's a pretty amazing chip... heres a example : http://sites.google.com/site/richardorme1979/home

but heres the pics... more to come soon...

After i soldered the blues together and just took the driver off the whites and powered the blues... and pics of the tank i got off frankthetank with black sand =D also i cycled this tank with vodka and i must say it's been about 3 weeks and a slight ammonia spike (like .25) and went back down no nitrite at all and finished it off with leaving some frozen cube of brine in there and seems all good... still dosing about 2ml a day thou.. most of my stuff in my bc29 is used to the vodka anyways... on thats note "cheers" :D

looks great wayne. so you just epoxied the led's onto the heatsink?

man, now that's what you call a computer monitor. haha

Yea when ya do things gotta do it big man!! lol cant wait til the canopy gets done... the funny thing is it's all in ma room... lol 2 tanks a big monitor and a bed.. =P but yea i just epoxied the leds on... seems to work really good... so when we going to put together yours?? lol

whenever i get a new tank.. haha.

i'm really thinking about setting up something at the office... but i'll have to check with them to see if i can even have a tank up there.

pretty sure they'll let you have a pico... it's just picos are a pain in the bung.. really gotta have a good auto top off... but water changes are a breeze... just bring a gatorade bottle to work with fresh salt water... Cant get much simpler then that... i was thinking bout making a custom pico... at regal plastics they got scrap acrylic pieces for dirt cheap... and they're big enough to make a pico... think they got 1/4 " too...might wanta check it out..

what's the total # of led's you used and how many meanwells did you use? said:
used 52 leds... and used 3 meanwells... i did a series + parallel config on the whites cause i wanted them dimmer then the blues anyways... the only reason to have that many whites was for coverage... but wait til i get it all lit up... in the pics thats only half the array...

I was looking over this and seen the computer monitor(your big ASZ tv) and was like. Looks like waynes room Great led build.

Where did you source your LED's and other meterials from? And awsome build btw. I plan to build one for my tank. said:
I got the whites from dealsextreme.com and the blues from a gb on nanoreef...
the aluminum i got made at a metal fab place in west dallas (has to be at least .35" thick for better heat distribution and cooling )... the acrylic i got done at regal plastics and some diy... any question feel free to pm me or if you need help building i'll be happy to help if i'm not busy.. but i'm making my own lighting controller soon so thats going to be a little challenge... i'm making it to make my koralias into wavemakers and to do a sunrise and sunset in increments of 10% per 30 til full and on for 4 hrs then back down... should be interesting... what are you looking at for the finished product in terms of $$ and time spent? said:
it's already done... think as far as total cost was around $500 to 600... most was spent on trial and error... like fans and such.. 12v wall plugs and such.. but it's definitely worth it..

I wonder how long the cost saving per month would be to make that back up :)
I just dropped 150 bucks on new MH bulbs :(

Well the look of the leds vs mh is worth the money alone.. to me mh looks like garbage w out atinics.. and these are sooo much brighter then t5... but i'd say it'll take ya a year or so to make the money back considering your not buying bulbs at all..

just for reference... the color difference the mh is a 250w xm 20k vs 39 total of cree cool white and royal blue leds

Wow that's A LOT of LEDs!

At what power % are you going to be running them? (because I doubt u could do 100% power with that many LEDs lol)

To put it in perspective I'm going to be lighting my 90 gallon with only 48 LEDs lol and u have 52!
