Koralia Power heads....

I just ordered a Koralia 2 (600gph). Anyone have any experience with them? They have the magnet attachment and look to be pretty good.

I have 2 "3's" and 1 "4" in my 125 and I love them. I had a problem with my "4" but it was replaced and they work great. I love the wide gentle flow plus now I have a bucket of MJ's for other things.

What kind of problem did you have with the 4? I ordered one to try it out and it seems to be barely holding on to my 1/2 glass wall. In fact, I bumped it with my hand last night while moving some rocks and the thing fell off. I like the flow and may go ahead and order a 2nd, but fear that it's going to fall when I'm not around to catch it.

Anyone else running a 4 with 1/2 glass? If so, have they fallen yet?

I thought I had it pushed on pretty well, but just gave it another go. Seems like it might stick a bit better now. Thanks!

It was an electrical problem within the powerhead itself. It was grounded somehow (not an electrician), Dr.s F&S replaced it.

i recently added a 3 to my tank and i really like it, seems to get a good range of flow and it is very un obtrusive

These are one of those instances where some people love em, some don't... I've never used them myself, but I have heard enough negatives from people who have had them to avoid them. I know when they first came out, they had a grounding problem that could/did lead to shocks and electrocutions. Recently I have heard of a couple of cases where they were the source of a short or breaker pop.

I would recommend the Tunze Nano's over these, both for form factor and reliability. The 6025's and 6045's are in the neighborhood powerwise and with easy mods can actually increase flow DRAMATICALLY.

The hydor koralias are much more affordable than the tunze and they flow really well. They recalled the bad ones that were causing shorts and what not. None of the new ones available do any of that. I love my hydor koralia 2 (600gph). It works great and it was only $45.

Tunze 6025's put out the same for $20 more and can be modded to push 1200GPH. You are incorrect though, the shocking ones were recalled, but the existing series still have occasional issues with popping breaks and other issues. In the end though, you have to go with the product YOU prefer as with anything.

my 2c had my number 4s since they came out. using them on a wavemake with no issues to date said:
What type of wave maker are you using? My 4 makes a heck of a racket when it starts up, that would drive me crazy if I had to hear it several times a minute.

I am with graviT, when these things start up, it makes a racket with lots of bubbles. I had my two HK4's connected to the ACIII, but thinking of just leaving them on all the time...

I just got my 2 Nanostream 6025s and I love them. IMO they put out a wider flow than the koralia's--I had a 2 and a couple 1s--the koralias seem to put out more of a V pattern whereas the nanostreams put out more of a cone type of pattern. They are more compact and much more versatile as far as directing flow IMO than the koralias. If you have a smaller tank, like 55 gallons and under, IMO they are much less obtrusive looking in the tank.

I have a "1" in my 24 gal, and it does a great job. However, to get it to do so, I had to put it in a upper corner in the front, so it takes up some visual room. I'm not happy about that, but the flow is so much improved. I like that because of it's flow pattern, it adds a little bit of chaos, rather than the direct flow of other powerheads.

I think I would have liked the Nanostreams better myself, but had a hard time shelling out 5x more per pump than the Koralia. I'm not crazy about the V shaped flow pattern, which is exactly the same as I get from my DIY MJ Mods (I thought it was something strange about the way I did it..heheh). The 4 is pretty large and I plan to re-aquascape to be able to put the things someplace other than near the front glass before I order my 2nd one.

Well I was real happy with my Koralia 4s, traded for 3s bc they were actually too strong of flow. Now one of mine is dead. It shorted out and is not working. I talked to the LFS and they will trade it out for me and send it back to Hydor. What a bummer, I really like the flow.
