Just got done watching the last quarter of "Killer Algae" on the Science channel. Channel 284 on DirecTv, Sunday March 8th, 7-8pm. The documentary was based out of the Mediterranean Sea. They where expericing a HIGH calpera out break in the area that was sufficating the fish and wildlife in the area. This so called "killer algae" was actually made in a labatory in Stuttgart Germany and specially adapted for the aquarium trade.

This chain of calpera "taxifolia" was invasice and toxic and got out into the Mediterranean sea.

They also said that California actually banned the sell of Calpera be it was invasive.

Now I know that some have calpera in their tanks, has any one experienced anything? I know i have one or two plants in my refugium as I type.

If we were closer to the ocean, we'd want to freeze any caulerpa when we trim it from our fuges. (Some recommend this anyway.)

As Ashlar says, we're far enough from the ocean we should be good... I even got a grudging agreement with that statement from the anti-Caulerpa scientist that was behind the push to get Caulerpa sp. banned in California at MACNA a few years back, it just couldn't survive the trip through 200-300 miles of freshwater and remain viable...

Of course, it's not a bad habit to get into of anything from your tank, if you're going to dispose of it, freeze it for 24 hours first to kill it, it can't hurt, and if you ever are near the ocean, you'll already be in the habit...
