KH-Alk/PH AutoTopOff...

So it looks like everything is wonderful in the tank (pics later) and it's time to work on the lack of Alkalinity/KH. I also have the ever fun dropping PH. Oh! and I am evaporating 2 odd gallons of water a day. So, where to start?

rnelson is suggesting a Geo-Kalk Reactor. Why dont I need a Calcium Reactor? Dont they have a all in one solution? Auto top off water into the Kalk, then into the sump? Everything in the tank (fish, rock and coral) all looks good. Sump is kick ass, but that's to be expected.

If I add a kalk am I going to manually dose for the lack of Alk or ultimately need a Calcium Reactor too.

Abilene needs a LFS from Ft Worth to open a branch office, I really dont know that I'm competent for the coming install.

I know there's runons and incomplete thoughts....I've been working and selfstudying while composing this.

Any help appreciated.

Kalk reactors in smaller tanks can fill ca and alk needs, but not in that size tank.

Your options are either dosing with 2-part (my preference) or a calcium reactor. The dosing can be done manually or automatically with dosing pumps. If you have a low pH problem after dosing for a few weeks, then you can add a kalk reactor for auto-top off and that will raise your pH and keep it steady. A calcium reactor runs continuously and keeps your ca and alk up to par for you. They 'can' lower your pH more depending on how much CO2 it takes to run them and get the output you need so you're more likely to need to run a kalk reactor with it.

Sorry, michad, this has nothing to do with your thread, but yes, another plea from another Abilene guy, we do need a LFS from the DFW area here!

Okay if I go with the whole shabang, I want to also get a 40 gallon RO/DI Storage barrel in my garage with a 25 gallon Saltmix Storage next to it.

Float valve the 40 gallon to the RO/DI unit and manual control on the 25 to dump the water in and then the salt, stir for a day and take 25 out of the tank and drop the new in ala marc's setup I think. I'm sensing another email to send.

i agree with dave two part or calcium reactor.....i am going reactor route with my 250 g tank...i do dose two part manually in my 60 cube...

I think for now I'm going with the manual correction on KH/ALK and a geo-kalk for my PH problems.

I'm not keeping a lot of corals that would be well served by a ca reactor and frankly I'm sick of fighting the low ph problem.

I'm awaiting word about receiving the Geo on Saturday and if they can ship we'll at least be addressing the ph issue this weekend.
