Kent Salt, part 2

Remember the bad batch of Kent that has very low Alk? I have two of those buckets. Kent did send the two buckets to replace the bad ones. However, I didn't want to throw away salt that "only" has low Alk. So, in the past 5 months, I've mixed 1/2 of the new salt with 1/2 of the low Alk salt, and adjust for Alk accordingly, for my monthly 30G water change. Today, I decided to test for phosphate in the new 1-day aged water. Salifert test reads between 0.25 and 0.50! BTW, the replacement salt does not show any trace of PO4.

Now I understand why I have phosphate problem in the past few months. I've been dumping phosphate into my stable tank! So, if you keep SPS, just give the buckets to fish only, or softies people.

The only "good" thing about this is that I'm forced setup the Phosban reactor and my tank has been showing no trace of phosphate in the last 3 weeks. Right now PO4 is b/t 0.03 and 0.1. Hopefully it will be undetectable by tomorrow.

Email Kent support: TechSupport and tell them the problem you have. They'll ask you to send in a sample. Once they confirm it, they'll send a replacement bucket. The whole process should cost you nothing.

Many of us participated in the exchange. Here is one of the threads.
