Keeping my new mushroom on the rock

So. Today I learned that superglue doesn't work too well on mushrooms. They're just too darn slimy.

I didn't have any mesh or wedding veil (haha I haven't had my wedding YET so naturally I don't have one). Any clear plastic things (cups, coke bottle bottoms etc.) I put on top of the 'shroom and the rock floated away with the current (leaving me to chase the mushroom around my rockwork).

I eventually weighed a cup down with a rock but the mushroom fell off on the inside (darn it!).

Its base was too small for a toothpick to fit through because it had shrunk a lot. Overnight we had it tied down with string but it escaped twice.

So I thought to myself. I have string, toothpicks, rocks, and a mushroom. Craft time!

Luckily, I can twist this little thing to fit around the rock nicely. The strings prevent him from floating around under there or from leaving the rock. He's in jail now and he's not getting away this time!

Hahaha my husband is embarassed about it; but, hey it works!

That is too funny. The netting you could have used could be ripped off a net in your arsenal, or you can buy bridal veil in the fabric or hobby section of Walmart by the foot.

Looks good! Don't take it away until it has had 4 days to attach.

I have had luck using fishing line to tie mushrooms down....even if you leave it on too long and the mushroom grows around the line...it still will slip through fairly easily for removal......

Okay here's the new one (per Marc's suggestion). I like this way better. It was really easy to make and I'll likely use it again. The mushroom stays put but won't be pinched if he puffs up. Not to he has room to expand!

My husband still thinks they're both ugly hahaha

Here are the rediculous instructions:

-Use superglue to attatch the 4 toothpicks.
-After they dry, tie each corner down a few times with string to keep them tight
-Cut fishnet slightly larger than the square
-Tie a long piece of string to one corner
-Twist the string around the toothpick, each time coming back around passing it through the net
-Go around the entire structure in a circle (or square? a squircle!)
-Cut off the ends if your husband still says it's ugly
-Take out your rock, and find a pretty flat place to place the mushroom. Or a flat place with a crevice in the middle.
-Place the mushroom in the crevice and tie the Holder on to the rock using more string on each corner
-Make sure there are no escape routes out the side
-Put it in a place where your husband won't notice it as often (so he can't complain how ugly it looks)
-Remove after at least 4 days (thanks marc!)

Creativity must be your middle name. Or you helped tie down some POWs in a previous war. I'm not sure which is the case.

If you don't want to make that type of square trampoline holder, you can simply use more netting and wrap the rock to hold the mushroom in place. A rubberband will hold the netting adequately, leaving the netting a little loose so the mushroom or ricordia can inflate.
