Kalkwasser question...

How many of you dose kalkwasser in your ATO? I'm planning on doing it, but was told last night at LFS that doing so would cause an unfavorable decrease in alkalinity. I've done quite a bit of online research and it appears that opinions are 50/50 pro/con. I've already built an eggcrate shelf in my ATO to prevent the ATO pump from sucking up the "sludge" or "chalk" (or whatever you call it) that settles at the bottom of the tank. Am I correct in thinking that as long as I only dose the dissolved kalkwasser higher up in the ATO tank, then it shouldn't be an issue because only the sludge at the bottom could potentially lower alkalinity? Was planning on starting with 1/2 tsp kalk per gallon in the ATO and increase as needed ( depending on water test results ). If you have any experience on the topic, I'd sure love to hear from you....Thanks!

I can tell you since i started putting kalk in my ato it was easier for me to have stable parameters and ph as well

+1 My tank has been much more stable since adding Kalk to my ato as well. Parameters are much more stable now than they were previously.
