Kalkwasser and trash can - Premix kalkwasser for 3 weeks

[All,

I read through Randy Holmes paper on premixing lime(calcium hydroxide) in a large 40gallon trash can and drip it into the display tank or use the kalkwasser solution as top-off. He even metioned that the premix kalkwasser has little degradation when stored in the non-airtight trash can for 2 to 4 weeks. Maybe some experienced reefers living in the Metroplex can help me answer these questions:

What specific kind and type of trash can?

Has anybody tried his method(premix kalkwasser in 40g) and demonstrated excellent coral growth?

[If you can find a trashcan that has HDPE stamped on the bottom, it is food safe. The Brute trashcans at Home Depot are good, but expensive.

I bought a couple of blue 55g plastic drums from a Grain & Feed Store for $12 each. The ones I got used to store Dr Pepper Syrup in them, and are food-grade.

I can't answer on the rest. I'm not a fan of kalkwasser, but I'm using it with my new tank.]

[Mine has that Stamp marked on it and i got mine at home depot.. You need to look for " Food grade" plastics.... Kalkwasser is cool for about 3 weeks then the PH starts to bottom out on it.. But if you place a powerhead with a venturi on it.. you can keep the concentration longer..... Ive personally used Kalk makeup water for 5 weeks with no problems.... but I use so much now .... Ive graduated to a very saturated mix ....]
