I had a female for a long time. It was a great fish. It eat well, got along with other fish and didn't nip at anything. I have seen males occassionally. I think the last place I saw one was at Exotic Aquatics. The males are more expensive.

You can find males. They are not that hard to find from wholesalers. The reason you don't seen many in LFS is
1 They are expensize for
2 kinda plain fish


They should be able to get one for you.

I had a female and was going to buy the male but could never find myself parting with the 100$ to get one.

They normaly not as blue as above.

Try searchig for "Zebra" angels.

No problems picking or getting it to eat. They do get fairly large.

Over the years I have had trouble keeping the males healthy for very long in some of my most successful set-ups. I refrain from buying them when they become available which is much less than the females for sure. Genicanthus sp. are one of those species that are able to change sex to meet the breeding need. I haven't ever done it myself, but have talked to people that have bought a few females and had one change into a male. In the wild, males and females of some of the species do not pair up and swim together like some of the other angels. Fact is, some female genicantus were thought to be another type all together before someone observed the change in an aquarium.
