It's Alive!!!!!!

Okay so I've seen my first signs of life today in my tank. Not a biggie to some but boy it is nice to see!!!

It looks like a lil "feather duster" kinda thing.

Now if only my ammonia would drop. Its still at 4ppm.
I'm now excited!

Ahhh, bringing back fond memories of when I set my tank up 5+ years ago...

Sounds like you're doing it right, just don't get impatient now... It just gets better from here! :)

Oh theres a white worm thing too!!!
Wooohooo, hell I may forget fish and just watch all this cool stuff come out.

I figured some of those on here that have had tanks for a while would remember this feeling!
I promise to not be impatient. LOL though I think I need to chill on the testing. I do it daily sometimes twice.

You might have a great idea. My tank is going on 4 years and I second Brian's thoughts.

The idea of no fish is intriquing. I love the fish in my tank but, I have thought many times that we are always fighting to keep nutrients low in a reef tank. Having no fish would greatly reduce the nutrients.

I have never heard of a Coral only tank. I might work-- you should try it.

Okay I fully admit I am in the same boat as you. I actually use a flashlight with a green lens cover on it to check out what is moving about after lights out in my tank. Last night I found a Feather duster of sorts. A couple of nights ago I found these worms that only come out of the live rock after the lights go out. I have some sort of sponges that seem to be doing great in the shadows of my live rock. On top of that I have found a bumble bee snail a hermit crab. In Venus established 29g FOLR tank I have found a baby star of some sort it is white and looks like it is a brittle star. They say that live on the reef looks different at night and they are right!!!!! Good luck it only gets better from here.

I can't say much, considering I installed a whole second power-compact lighting system with red power compact bulbs just to watch my tank at night. The night crew is a whole different animal from what you see during the day!

I was thinking about using a NO fluresecent bulb with a red or green lens cover on after I figure out my lights. I do hope your planing to make the tank tour.
End of thread hijack

Continuation of thread hijack - Here's my thread from when I installed a pair of 13w red PC's over my 6' wide 150... I liked the PC's because they were relatively cheap from www.ahsupply.com and really small...

As to the original thread - you won't believe what you'll see coming outta your rock! One of my favorite stories in that vein, about 2 years ago, 3+ years after my tank was setup, I found a medium sized urchin cruising my tank one night... Keep in mind, I never bought an urchin!

I just recently found a place that has refurb and /or disoncitued lighting and such.
Tri City Tropicals.
I got a 65W PC for 48 that included shipping and a new bulb!

I think I've got that red algae crap in my tank. Its on one of the LR I bought at the LFS.
