Is this snail safe?

I saw it for the 1st time last night. He's huge...the size of a golfball. I just want to know if he's reef safe. The one on the right.

Probably... typically the problem snails are whelks and for the most part their shells are more elongated with a snout sticking up like a periscope. Keep an eye on it and see where it resides, if you see it on corals or clams etc more than just LR or the glass, then I would be a bit more concerned.

I did have a clam Mysteriously dissapear last month. I've only seen this snail at night and last night was the first time. I haven't added anything to my tank in over 6 months...Coral wise.....Interesting.

You might try posting this on Dr Ron's forum on Marine Depot to see if he can give you an ID of some sort. That color pattern seems to be pretty distinct, but a shot of the hole it pulls back into might be needed for a definitive ID.
