Is this live rock ready?

[i bought a 29 gal about 2 weeks ago and it had a full tank of water but no heater or pumps turned on. it has about 35 pounds of rock in it and i brought it home and did a 50% water change and installed 2 heaters, power head, hob filter. i let it run for a week and did a 20% water change. i waited 3 days which is today and tested the water.

results:
ph 8.1
nitrate 0
nitrite 0
amonia 0

does this mean the rock is okay to place in my 125? there is a couple of spots of coraline algea on the rocks. please let me know.]

[Why don't you buy a couple of snails at the LFS, and put those in your tank for observation. If they survive and happily travel around, the tank is probably okay for some livestock. I'd keep testing the water for the next week or two, just in case things quietly head south.]

[I agree, that is a possibility. Snails aren't too hard on the pocketbook, and can broadcast a problem pretty quickly. One member last year had a problem with any snail that touched his sandbed. As soon as they did, they'd die. He had to replace the sand, but I don't recall if it was ever established what made it so toxic.

Hopefully your snails will remain happy and healthy. :)]

[Most things that we are concerned about keeping from live rock are usually pretty temperature hardy... As long as the change is gradual.

crabs and shrimp usually live at greater depths where the water is colder anyway.

I don't know that plants or bacteria care about how cold it is except that it would slow growth.

However, Naturally assume when there is a change that there was die off!

Snails  are always a good choice! I recommend cerith or nassarius as both can flip themselves over.

Did I mention I pending an Email to finish setting up a group buy from florida pets (they sell both)!]

[I'm kinda confused :lookaround:

Are you trying to cycle the 29gal to use?
Or just using the 29gal to recure your LR to be put into your 125gal?

Either way I'm sure you should be good to go now :)]
