Found this guy just now & i would like to put it in with my Seahorses or at least back in my reef tank. Is he a good guy becouse i didnt buy him & i dont know ? He is under 3" right now but how big will it get ?

I belive that is a brittle star and they should be good to go in either. I think they can get up to 1' across. They hide in the rock work and come out at night, about the only thing that they might eat that you do not want them to are little feather dusters. It is a great cleaner

If it is the baby brittle starfish, it will stay under 2" in size. I have them in all of my tanks, including Casper's tank.

I dont know how old it is as i just found it. I can say i havent added any corals or LR in abought a year.

I used to have a brittle starfish in a smaller tank and he was a ravenous fish predator

Oh that is just great...a fish eating starfish? Say it ain't so...I have a monster in my tank right now...probably 12" across.

Tony, there are exceptions to every rule, but the only kind I've ever seen or heard of being predatory are the green ones...

I've got 6 LARGE NON-Green ones in my reef and the only harm they do is ook my squeamish dad out when he's over visiting and I feed the tank... (And all those tentacles poking outta the rock waving around for food)

Well this big bad freaky thing is green. He hasn't messed with any of my fish though. Looking at it again, it is more like 16" across!

Ya, I neglected to mention that he was green. Wait till he purchases up on his legs and turns into a cage. The fish swim between his legs and he collapses down to consume them.

Yeah, Tony, the green ones are great scavengers when they're small, but once they get large, they'll eventually develop a taste for fresher meat...

Can't find the video now to save my life, but years ago saw a video of one hunting. It'd stand up, forming a fake "cave" with it's legs and body. A small fish would swim into the safety of this "cave" and the starfish would drop down while twisting to close the "bars" of the prison, drop down on the fish, kill and eat it...

However, only the green ones are known for doing this. If you have any small fish in the tank with a large green brittle, I'd highly recommend ya' find a new home for either the star or the small fish...

I think the star is going to find a new home in the fug tonight...Now wonder Jerone was so ready to part with it!!!

Wow thats neat . I would like to have seen that video. I will make sure & let others know abought the green brittle stars for sure.

I did put my new found star in with my SH's but i will keep my eye open for him & if it gets any bigger than 3" i will move him back into my reef or find him a home with some realy big fish.
