Is This a Good Skimmer?

i have not used that one per say, but i have used two other reef octopus skimmers, currently using one, and they are great

I have been looking for a HOB, so it will take a little bit of the heat out of my system and to upgrade my skimmer because I made the mistake of getting a cheap Proclear Aquatics 150 and I don't think it really has done its job.

Does this skimmer have a recommended water depth? I can't find it anywhere. Do HOB's even have water depth recommendations?

HOB skimmers don't have water depth, but the water level in the tank usually dictates the water level in the HOB skimmer body. That is why you normally can't run a HOB skimmer in a sump.

I'm using an AquaC Remora Pro that I moved to my sump area running off a MagDrive 3. I just figured out a way to mount it next to the sump so the return water goes back into the sump and used 1/4" tubing to run from the MagDrive to the Remora and it has been working really well down there and is now out of sight. I think the Remoras may be one of those exceptions to what Marc said where they don't depend on tank water level.

I am running remora pro as well in the sump and it is doing great. I don't have to see it. it takes the pump out of the tank and works for me real good on my 29g

did you choose a skimmer? here are a couple pics of my remora hooked up with only an mj1200. it works better with a mag pump hooked up, but this is pretty good skimmate production as is. it is currently hooked up to a 40 breeder QT tank.

What about this one

I am looking for a good HOB as well.

I just got the BH 1000 and I hated it at first but now that I have it dialed in its working like a champ!!! I have a thread on here for it. I would recommend just about any reef octopus skimmer as they all seem to work extremely well and are very affordable. Good luck with your decision.

btw, mine is the one with the external pump, and man im glad I went that route because the pump is a lot bigger than what I thought it would be.
