Is my tank RR?

I have two holes drilled in my tank. Both on the back, about an inch below the top lip, one on each end. Does that mean my tank is RR? I always thought that if a tank is RR it would have holes drilled lower down towards the bottom of the tank.

If these can be used for inflow/outflow for a sump, does the water just spill out of one of these holes into a hose once the water rises to that point? I can see how the return from the sump pump could be installed into the other hole.

Thanks!

you can use one hole for return, or both for drains.

You'll want to attach some sort of skimmer box, with silicone, to the inside of the tank where the holes are.

Install a bulkhead.

Put a 90 elbow on the inside, pointing down toward the bottom of the tank (quieter flow.) Drill a hole in it right below where the water line will be so if the power goes, it will stop draining when it reaches the hole (siphon break)

there are lots of plans for DIY reef-ready. My advice would be to take the inside compartment of an old Hang on Over-flow box, and silicone it to your tank (after you drill a hole in the back of the box big enough for your 90 elbow to come thru.)

Does this make sense ?

I think I am following what you said. Could I just put a bulkhead in one of the holes with a strainer attached to it for my intake to the sump...and then pump out of the sump, back into the other hole?

yah...

Do a search for Calfo overflow and you'll see what I am talking about.

A Calfo is what you need.
