Is my skimmer working properly?

I had this same skimmer in a tiny little sump and it seemed to have been working great (except my water levels were fluctuating so I was constantly pouring in more water)... So I just built a 40 gallon sump/fuge and cleaned the skimmer and popped it in the new sump. Nothing has really changed other than the fact that a) I cleaned the neck, b) it has about 3 more inches of water than what it had previously and now it seems to be more noisy than it was before? The website (trigger systems titan) calls for 7-11" and mine is in 12" of water.

It just seems like its making a ton of bubbles but not skimming... maybe I'm just being impatient? Also, in this youtube video I just made, ignore the "wet skimming" overflowing... I had just bumped up the level skimming level a bit too much and it was pouring water over.

What do you guys think?

Also if its sitting in too deep of water, like yours is, it keeps it from building up a good foam head. Build yourself a 2" stabd out of eggcrate or have Marc make you one. Will help quite a bit.

I agree with both assesment's......sound's like it's sitting too deep along with probably not being "broken in" yet. The deeper it sit's, the higher strain on the pump due to the increased pressure.

it seems to be working fine, i was just being impatient after cleaning it for the first time. also, i did build a little 1.75" riser to get it right in to that 10.5" target area specified by the manufacturer... just waiting for the glue on the riser to dry. thanks guys!

Sounds good. It should work better for you all around now that you are in the "working range". Keep in mind that for optimal performance, you can still fine tune the height in order to find the "sweet spot".
