Is it normal for there to be "dirt" in mixed salt water

I am mixing RO with RedSea salt in a 30 gallon barrel for at least 24 hrs. RO water is clear, salt is white as snow, but when I fill 5 gallon buckets and let it sit overnight, there appears to be "dirt" sediment at the bottom. Is this normal?

I know it happens, but *normal* ... ??? ... if so then unacceptable to me. Same reason I stopped using Reef Crystals ... you can SEE the tiny black specs of ??? through the clear bag of reef crystals. Even more once mixed.

Just be careful pouring into the transfer container and keep the pump OFF the bottom so you don't put it into the tank.

The *cleanest* and most consistent mix I have found is Tropic Marin (less residue as well). I only recently started using that when the BioActive was on backorder.

I liked how the fluval salt mixed up. Crystal clear with no residue. Too bad dr fosters stopped selling it or I would still be using it.

The Tropic Marin Pro Reef is *crystal clear* (no residue as stated) ... You will also be surprised how consistent your tests will be.

@OP ... how long have you been using the RedSea? Have you had this issue in the past, or just this batch?

That's one of the reasons we stopped using the Red Sea coral pro salt. It was so messy. I had to clean the trash can every time I mixed. With aquavitro I hardly have to clean it. I also use a filter sock when pumping it into the tank.

I bought a bucket of red sea and I don't like it. It's just as bad as reef crystals for residue and cloudiness. Once it's gone I'm switching to aquavitro I think.

Tropic Marin pro reef 200g is $86.99 ~.45 per galon
Red Sea 175g is $64.99 ~.37 per gallon
AquaVitro Salinity 225g bucket is $99.99 ~.45 per gallon

I have heard from several different LFS that in their opinion AquaVitro Salinity is the best salt on the market. I will be switching as well once I use up the last of my RedSea.

Do note Seachem's comment regarding mixing time.

So consensus is that dirt residue is typical/ normal? said:
It is normal depending on the brand of salt you use. I use reef crystals and there is always dirt residue. Haven't seen any ill effect with the reef.

I'm almost through my first bucket. I've used RC TMPR IO and they all fail in comparison. Well except TMPR. There about hand in hand I guess.
