INTERCEPTOR / HOW MUCH TO USE

I am going to put all my sps in a qt tank and treat them with interceptor. I'm hoping that I can do this in 10 gallons of water. I have read that the red bug life cycle is only 3 days. I am hoping that I don't have to treat the whole tank. I have to many shrimp that I can't catch and several crabs as well. Can anyone tell me what percentage of a pill to use to treat 10 gallons of water. How long can I leave the sps in the interceptor before I need to do a water change? Does it kill the eggs or just the live bugs. Thanks for any information that you can provide.

here is where is info on interceptor treatment...you might need to treat your main tank as they dont know the life cycle of red bugs...everything i read you treat whole tank skimmer, sump and tank...

It is tough to measure out 1/40th of a pill, especially since most of the tablet is beef flavoring apparently. What I do is crush 1 tablet into the finest powder I can (using the back of a spoon), then pour that dust into a small resealable container. From the dust, I'm able to get 5 tiny Salifert spoons total, so I'll use one spoonful when I treat new arrivals in my 14g quarantine.

Yes, you're using more than you need, but in that way a tablet gives you 5 dosings, which is pretty good cost-wise and seems to be enough to get rid of any red bugs.

Thanks for the info! I will post how it goes. Can anyone confirm that red bugs only live for 3 days. I can't remember where I read that. It had to be on here or RC.
Thanks,
Mary

this is from the link i posted

Even at 100x strength, the bugs lasted over 30 minutes. The best way to keep them from getting back in your tank is to treat the coral for the full 6 hours, an increased dose seems to be safe for corals. You are only going to be treating your new coral once. If the bug lays its eggs on the corals (no one knows) they could hatch off a week later in your aquarium.

i would keep them in qt to make sure they dont have eggs that can hatch. it is a big hassle to treat a big tank. I did it twice...now i qt anything that going to be living in my tank.

Thanks for all the helpful information.
All my SPS are in the qt tank with interceptor. They did a little sliming from the move. I hope this makes them happy again.
Thanks again!
Mary
