Instead of Drilling Can you use a pump

Hi DFWMAS,

I was wondering if one did not want to drill a tank could they build and overflow tower and at the bottom of it put a pump or even use an in line pump out side of the tank to pull the water out and into a sump. Then a return pump to put the water back in. So if the power ever cut off both pumps would stop running so no spillage. I am sure there is a reason for not doing this. I am curiuos if anyone know why.

NO! Pumps stop and you have a flood becasue of siphon. On top of that you will never get the two pumps to flow at exactly the same rate. And that two equals FLOOD :)

Best to use an external overflow. The big problem with them is losing suction. An aqualifter pump can be used to maintain the water vacuum.

Hmmmm.... I prob should of thought of gravity I guess the tanks would have to be side by side and that would really just defeat the purpose. Well know I have the answer to that question. Thanks
