Incredibly simple splash guard

Okay, so acrylic really CAN do it all...

This is an incredibly simple 10 minute hack, almost so simple I didn't bother posting about it, but figured it MIGHT help someone else along the way...

Ever since I did the Maxi Jet Mods I've been having a problem with water being splashed up at the ends of my tank. It blew out a metal halide on me about a month ago, and destroyed one of my moon lights (I know, my lights are too low, but I hadn't had a problem in 5+ years until now).

So, I simply cut out a length of acrylic, placed it on the rim of the tank over the area that gets splashed, cut another lil' piece of acrylic, and super glue'd it at a 90 degree angle, drilled some holes in the smaller piece, and screwed the whole mess to my hood...

So far, so good...

(And yeah, I know, the inside of my canopy is in pretty sad shape, but cest la vie...)

Good idea. Using wingnuts would be a little more effort, but allow you to more easily remove the splash guards when necessary (cleaning, more access)...

Yeah, I'd thought of other solutions for quick removal (Drilling two holes connected to each other, one smaller one bigger, like the hanging mechanism on most doo-dads, for instance) but since it seems my cordless drill permanently lives within 10 feet of my tank these days, it's still pretty quick and easy to remove the splash guards if I need to...

That, and they only jut out about 2 inches or so, so they're not in the way really...
