Not the right lighting on it, but the eyes are a brighter green......

I saw one like this at Bills for $399 about the same size. I got mine at N Dallas Aquarium for 5 bucks. It was 80% bleached out and I put it in my tanks and it grew back in 2 months....... Why are they so expensive?

a real war coral favites is expensive because people decided to slap LE on it and that is likely what bill was selling.

It's the wrong type of coral, you have a favia not a favites and a 'real' one would need lineage to prove it such.

Coral naming is a weird thing because some names can be passed between any coral of a similar color/pattern while others can't. For example, an armor of god zoa can come from anywhere and be called the same but a Sherman rose anemone is only a Sherman if it came from the guy in Sherman or someone who got it from him, lineaged. It's really more than a pain than it's worth sometimes.

Np! Now, don't get me wrong, it's a nice peice, I have a war coral that is only a couple inches on size and your peice is just as nice if not better cause of it's size. It's up to you if the name matters, but I think a nice colony like that is very cool.

I'm starting to see nameless corals that look just as nice as many of the high end, big named corals. Granted, I know there are plenty that won't compare, but there are some out there. Some people are very proud of their corals and charge an arm and a leg for a frag, and colonies are untouchable. Then again you come across some colonies that are well priced and are great looking in their own right. I think it's 100% up to you. If you like it and it's something that would look good in your tank, screw it, buy it. I'm learning quickly that it's not all about names in this hobby, just like any other. The big guys will always be big, and there are people that will buy their stuff. Then again there are those that see beauty in each piece separately and don't worry about names.

I think you did a very good job picking up this coral. Congrats on bringing it back to life!

Thanks for the props. I have about 7 corals that dfw was having trouble with and they were letting them go for 5 bucks and they all have come back to life and grew huge. I actually dont like this War Coral thing a ma jig..... I dont really like the non colorful corals.... yes it has green eyes, but not much else to it unless its feeding, then all its tents come out for a bit.... in my world its a blah coral....

The old lady decided she wanted a clam so I finally got her one.... I didnt know they moved arounf the sand so much. It has gone 6-7 inches away from where i put it...

and yes, i know i have hair algea, i got a seahare and it commited suiside by trying to stick its head in the power heads... got another one and it did the same thing to me. Now I have some sponge cover things so the next one wont do that. 50$ down the drain... but man those things can eat the cruap out of hair algea...
