ID please?

I found this under a rock, at first I thought it was xenia, but when I looked closer it does not resemble xenia at all.

The base is a white ball and coming out of it are lots of stalks, with a star on the end. I have small xenia heads coming out on the other side of my tank and they are not the same.

Any thoughts?

if the stalks are hard it may be a hydroid,
otherwise my guess is some sort of softy, like a leather

How would it have gotten there? I do not have any toadstools in my tank, and the rocks have been there for 3 months.

And do you see how there are 2 stalks that are by themselves, looks like it is coming right out of the rock.

I have no idea what a hydroid is, is it reef safe?

Looks like a toadstool to me. I've had corals pop out of rock after years in a tank. An old customer of mine had a Goniopora sp. come out of a rock after 10 YEARS. Absolutely nothing, including corals fish or rock, had been added in 10-11 years. They had also never had a Goniopora. So definitely not out of the question.
