ID Please??

I have these little things poping up in my tank. They look like a little corkscrews. There a tube like thing about 1/4" long (atm) with a streamer that comes out of the end. I have pics of them but they are really really bad pics. Any info would be helpful, I hope there not bad and i should be pulling them out faster then i am now.

Its a good thing they should look like a feather coming out of a tub. HINT they are called feather duster.

congrats thats a good sign of a healty tank. :D
 
I have never seen anything but a streamer come out of these and they where poping up all over. It had me scared. I do have soem baby feather dusters in my tank I have found but dident notice them until they had feathers comeing out of the end. Thanks for the info and sorry for the newb question.

Yeah i have been there lots, and i looked but i could find no pic for them at the stage in life there in,And that is what had me stumped. I have several that look like that one in the pic but these have no feathers just some slimy streamer that comes out of the end. I never thought that it takes time for them to grow feathers lol and they have to look like something before that.

I know what your talking about, but I do not know the name of them.
I had them in various areas of my tank, and the only emit a slime like stream. They never caused any problems in my tank or tanks in the past.
 
I think you are referring to a vermetid. I don't have that on my ID page, but I've had them in my tanks. I wonder if I have any pictures of any of them...
 
Marc, You are correct, they are Vermetids. Thank you all for the help in finding what these are. I found a pic of them that looks exactly like the ones i have in my tank.
 
I'm glad you got an answer and a name for your stuff. Marc, I spent alot of time early on trying to find out the same answer. Since you are the go to guy for IDing things, do you have plans to put it up on your id page? :)

btw, you get the monster thermometer moved out of the 29 yet?
 
If I ever get a good picture (640x480) of one or a few of them, I'll add it to the ID page. I really want to update that page with a number of items, but haven't had the time to do so.
