ID please...

Sorry for the pic... they are in my HOB...

I spoke to some people at my LFS and they told me this is aiptasia.
They recommended ‘joes juice,’ but I tried "stop aiptasia" instead... it didn't work...

After doing more research, I think they were wrong... I think this is actually some type of dwarf feather duster worm... not sure...?!

They were hitch-hikers on some of my live rock. I assumed the people at the LFS were right originally, because I had some in my display a while back, and after putting in a peppermint shrimp, they disappeared.

Also, does anyone know why my cheato has so many brownish patches?
I got it from a LFS, it came like that.

Those looks like feather duster worms to me, definitely not Aiptasia...

Try stirring the Cheato up and rolling it around, I've had times where the bits on the bottom (Most shade) turned brown...

That's great, I'm relieved...
used some $ on the 'stop ap,' but at least I dont have that to worry about aiptasia.

I thought it was the light too, but it looks more random. It goes from green to brown and back to green again in some parts of it's strands.

I was trying to post a better pic, but it wont let me.
I think the file size may be to big. Not sure how to reduce it, to upload it...

ok here is another pic...
hopefully you can see what I was referring to...?!

I am not sure, but it looks a bit unhealthy
...it may just be the light, but it looks like that through most of it.

If ya' shake the Cheato off, does the brown come off? It looks like cyanobacteria to me, and if it is, you should be able to shake it loose...

negative...

I even tried to scrape a bit off.
It looks like the color is imbedded, but I could be wrong.

Well just an update...

I tried rotating the ball to give the brown area more direct light...
after almost a week, I did not notice any changes at all.

Still not certain what it is, but I just cut off most of it, and am now waiting to see how it will grow back (fingers crossed) - hopefully it will be nice and green 'only.'

An update on this, in case anyone was wondering...

Not 100% certain, but after shifting the entire ball from time to time, and increasing the lighting a bit, it is looking as healthy as ever.

I will take a few pics shortly to show the improvement.

So I hypothosize, it was a light concern- 100pts goes to Serk...!!!
