[Are they bubbles you can pop? If so, I'd say red valonia. Not really something you want in your tank. Emerald crabs might work on it.]

[They appear to be poppable.
Why are they bad for the tank? What can happen?

It appears I have a lot of CRAP in my tank that shouldn't be there here lately.... :very angry:]

[valonia is a bubble algae. It is definitely on the nuisance list. When it pops, it releases spores that grow more of them.

My Naso loves them btw, but emerald crabs do too.]

[is there anything else besides emerald crabs that eat these?
I only have a 40g so, i'm limited on the fish I can use & i've been warned to stay away from emeralds because they are not "reef safe." I eventually want to have shrimps and other critters running around....
You recommended chemi-clean for my cyano,Will it work for this problem also??]

[No, valonia is algae, red slime is cyano bacteria. Totally different.

Smaller emerald crabs are fine, but may turn out to be a problem later. Of course, you could put in one or two now and remove them later.

There are other fish that probably eat these, but I've not experienced it firsthand.]
