ichy situation

I recently caught all the fish from my reef and placed them in a quarenteen tank because of ich. Now how long do they have to stay in there before it is safe to put them back in the display tank. What is the life cycle of ich with no fish to feed on?

Well, I assume you're lowring the salinity of the fish in qt? Once you get down to 1.009, keeping it there for 5-6 weeks will also allow the ich in the main tank time to starve.

Here's a good read on the lifecycle of marine ich

and one on hypo..

Then you'll just have to finish the copper treatment and allow for the ich in the main tank to starve - so read up on the lifecycle of ich and that's how long you'll need to keep your display tank fish-free.

Misty makes a good point. It would probably take 6 to 8 weeks to read all that's been written on the life cycle of Ich.

Seriously. Your copper treatments will be completed long before the Ich in your display starves. The good news is, your pod population will increase dramatically. Your corals will look better. You will be amazed just how nice a reef gets without fish around. Just don't forget to feed your cleaner crew a little tidbit now and again.

I did find this rather good short story on marine ich life cycle if any one is interested.
