Ich

If ich wipes out a tank, does the ich go with it? Will you still have to treat the tank for ich?
I think ich is taking out my tank. I had 4 fish in a 28 nano. The rocks fell and I ha to stack them again. I tested the water for several days after and no cycle appeared to happen. Now my fish seem to be dying off 1 by 1. I lost 2 yesterday. And today I noticed white spots on my clown. What should I do? Also my flame angel isn't eating.

Is it ich or marine velvet? Might setup a qt tank and do copper treatment

I'm not sure about which it is. Is there anything I can treat my tank with that is reef safe? I am willing to try anything.

Seeing that you are talking about cycling, I would start checking your parameters of your aquarium. First find the problem that gave your fish ich.

What is the nitrites, amonia, ph, natrates in the aquairum? What is the temperature swing of the aquarium through the day?

I wonde if I has hard, fast cycle while rearranging the rocks? What's strange is the corals never showed any signs of stress.

Very good article Matt, I appreciate it. I guess I will be setting up a quarantine tank tomorrow. I hope they make it long enough. When they talk about adding garlic to food, do they mean like minced garlic from a glove, or just add garlic powder or what? Thanks for all your help guys. I hope my buddies make it.

Whelp, my other little clown died today. I had my water tested again and nobody can figure it out. I have perfect water, except my salinity was running at 1.027. I can figure this one out. I started adding garlic to my food and the Flame Angel ate some which is an improvement. They don't think it is ich by the picture I showed them at DNA. They said in the mean time, run some carbon filtration to try and scrub the water. So they sold me some purigen. I guess the only other thing I can do is wait it out. If I lose this little guy, this tank will not be receiving any new fishes for at least a month to hopefully get whatever killed them all off out of there. This is frustrating and sad. Im not even mad about the lost money, I just can't stand seeing these little guys suffer. [smilie=crying.gif]

Have you checked for stray voltage. That could cause some stress on the fish. I have that uv for you but that's only going to keep the ick from reproducing not kill what's already there. Set up a qt if you can and dose it with meds. I also used medaflax if it's still around. was
reef safe. I never noticed any problems with my reef when using it.

I have 1 flame angel, 2 small frags of green birds nest, a small frag of ponape birds nest, a small brain, short tentacle plate coral, various zoanthids, a fragspawn and torch coral. oh and green star polyps.

Forgot to add, that since dropping a couple of drops of Kent's Garlic Extreme in the tank and soaking a little bit of food in the stuff, the flame seems to be coming around. He ate much more than he has the last couples days. Also, I don't know if it has to do with being the only fish left, but he is swimming around like he owns the tank again. Mind you, the other fish in the tank were babies, maybe 9-10 month old clowns. If the flame angel makes it through this, should I still wait, 6-8 weeks to let the ich cycle complete itself before adding another fish?

I wonder if anyone would want to buy the sick little fishy. I don't have the confidence to treat him without killing him. I read a lot about treatments and they can be dangerous. I just don't want to experiment on him and lose the battle.

Bah. I didn't even see the link to this thread from the other here's a repost.

What's the specific gravity in your tank? Usually ich problems crop up if you're running higher than normal or in the top end of normal range. Slowly bringing your SG down to around 1.020 will help fish naturally combat ich. I prefer to keep mine somewhere between 1.023-1.025. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think ich is always in our tanks and unless something acts as a stressor to our fish their healthy immune systems keep it at bay. Oh I see above you said your SG is 1.027, that seems pretty high to me, especially dealing with parasites.

Just a suggestion.... If it's the only fish left and he's easy to get out. Take a 5 gallon bucket fill it with your tank water, about 2-3 gallons, and make a quick medical tank out of it. You'll need a small heater, the aqueons that suction to the side work great. Smallest possible. Aqueons are nice because I just drop the whole thing to the bottom of the bucket. Something to keep the water moving, like a nano pump or small air stone. I use a 200gph koralia that I just drop in the bucket, doesn't have to stick to the side. Airstone is good because many of the treatments deprive the water of oxygen. And possible a small self contained UV, optional. Drop the fish in and start your treatment with medication of choice. He isn't going to care about lighting and stuff. Treat till cured.
After treatment, it's easy to aclimate him back to the tank by simply doing water changes over a couple of days. Then float and release:) If you use copper you'll probably want to net him out.

It's worked well for me with both fresh and salt water over the years.

Good luck.
