amazing video, thanks for sharing! if we could all get growth in 6 months like that we could repopulate the worlds reefs!

Getting growth like that is easy. Just feed the entire stock of your LFS's frozen food section and then a few hours later do a 100% water change.... do that several times a day. And you're on your way. Oh... and get lights as bright as the sun. :)

THanks Wes, not only is the growth amazing but every piece is an amazing color. I didnt see any average brown acros that you see alot while diving.
 
That just reminds me of how much we really starve our corals in captivity lol.

We really need to look into feeding our stuff more, especially with the UBER-skimmers of today that can polish water. Get one rated for 4-6x your tank size instead of the usual 2x and then feed every night coral food that should get you there [smilie=wink.gif]
 
Hugely oversized skimmers don't work. I've got a friend with a 60g reef using a 250g-rated skimmer that doesn't nothing and is frustrating to work with. Matching the skimmer to the water volume is best.

Well IMO thats "kind of true" IF you keep the same "60G nutrients" in the tank with a skimmer that big. (as you probably know neck and pump size are less efficient when not matched up)... but what I propose is to (for example) feed that 60g tank as you would a 200g tank so the skimmer would be "properly" matched up to the nutrients... in turn giving the coral much more food from the time that it decomposes to the time that the skimmer picks them up

Thats what happens when you have perfectly stable chemistries and a little bit of nutrients. Our problem is we have too many biologic products that can't be broken down while the tank's chemistry fluctuates too often stunting the growth, supressing the coloration and reproduction potential. It has little to do with skimming. I ran a very sucessful skimmerless tank in the past. I had it up for 4 years.
