I was goofing around and built this yesterday...

[I was sick and tired of my pH Pinpoint Monitors falling over, and I didn't have a good place to velcro it, so I decided to make a couple of holders. The first one is very straight-forward. It is a basic easel (sp?), using a piece of 1/4" acrylic that is 3.5" wide.

I heated it up with a propane torch to make the bends, never leaving the flame on any particular spot too long. Otherwise it can bubble up and melt/burn. I heated each side evenly so it would bend nicely. Don't force it, it will bend when hot enough.

After I had the shape and cooled it off in cold water, I made a final cut on the table saw (of the back leg) to the get the proper angle - so it would lean back just right.

Problem solved!

My other ph Pinpoint Meter balances precariously over the water of my 55g's sump. Yesterday I accidentally bumped it into the water, but rescued it in time. Again, no good place to put it where I can see it easily. I made a different bracket, where I can still remove it for battery compartment access, and even lift the bracket out entirely so I have full access in the sump. I didn't want to drill any holes in my sump and risk a potential leak some day. I could have used some nylon thumb screws to make it permanent, But this was simpler - to use and easy to get out of the way.

I added a hook on the back to put the extra wiring from the probe. I wasn't really worried about the appearance of this project as much as getting functionality ouf ot it. :D

I hope this gave you guys some ideas so you can make your reefing experience easier! ;)]

[Marc,

Have you had success with your pH Pinpoint monitor. Looking at the photos I remember trying one a while back. The darn thing never even calibrated. I got so frustrated that I sent it back to the online store I got it from. Did I just have bad luck? What do you think of the product?]

[Reefette, I bought both of mine used from fellow club members, and both work flawlessly. When the readings get a little screwy, it is usually time to change the 9v battery. It will state "Low Bat" on the screen, btw.

I got some calibration fluid with the second one I bought, and it was a simple job to calibrate both units.

Eventually the probes go bad on these units and have to be replaced. If yours arrived and the tip of the probe was not capped with fluid in it, it may have been ruined.

As far as I'm concerned, I love them and wouldn't want to be without them.]

[Bummer, I guess it's just my luck.
:very angry:
I should have exchanged that thing. They would be so much easier than all the drops.]
