I used lemon Clorox to clean a used skimmer as to make sure I didn't transport anything bad into my dt! i have it soking in sink now but I read to make sure to only use regular bleach( after I had alredy soaked it for about an hr of corse) because somthing to do with the oil in the lemon bleach will make skimmer go crazy! what should I do now? skimmer is still in bleach bath was thinking I was going to let sit overnight then to ce let air dry and use prime to make sure I got all the bleach gone. should I be worried about the lemon bleach

I would rinse it off as much as possible, wiping it down with a sponge on all surfaces. Then soak it overnight in white vinegar and warm water. The next day, rinse it clean and sponge everything again. It should be fine thereafter.

Thanks for the reply! Will vinegar kill bad things( ick, or marine velvet) Just as good as bleach? I have used viengar to clean before but wanted to make sure everything was whipped out befor I slapped on tank.

White vinegar is the go to for cleaning all things in the hobby really. Some people even use it in small amounts to kill pests in their tank. As far as bad things coming from used equipment, I'm pretty sure your safe if its dried out and cleaned no matter what you use. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

I use white vinegar to clean my stuff as well! soke my power heads in it when they get nasty, Will soak skimmer cup exetra but I just didn't want to take any chances with used equipment! I know bleach will kill everything ! But mabey vinegar does the same? If it does it would be good to know because I like working with it a lot better then bleach

There is little need for use of bleach with our hobby. Some use bleach to clean filter socks, but then soak them in rinse water with dechlorinator to avoid harming their livestock. White vinegar is available by the gallon at the supermarket, and that mixed with water will clean most anything.
