I thought I killed my tank - Update

I have been out of town since 2nd of July, my tank is fully automated with several redundant protections in place. I travel a lot for months at a time and have never had any issues....flawless operation and monitoring. Long story short, I was doing a remote top off when a family emergency occurred. I somehow selected manual on for my topoff which would normally not be a problem since I have safeguards to prevent creating a freshwater tank and flood when in auto mode, as I mentioned I circumvented auto mode. To further ensure St murphy would visit, I switched my alarm alerts to send to my cell phone instead of my yahoo account....well I was not aware that T-Mobile has zero coverage in my small hometown area so no warnings. After 4 day's I was able to check status and found my conductivity very low however ph was decent and ORP was good, I did not attemp to do any corrections without being able home to see if readings were correct or not so I have just been monitoring and hoping for the best for the last week. This morning my ph is very low, ORP very low, salinity very low so with three different reading looking off, I fear the worst. I won't be back home until late Monday night, early Tuesday morning and am really hoping the water level has just gotten low and the probes are partially out of the water.

Cheers,

oh man, i sure hope not ron, if there is anything we can do to help, meet someone there who has a key to check it out, just let us know. my cell is in my profile, you arent too far from my work if no one else can help, so give me a ring...you never know, tomorrow morning vs tomorrow night might make a difference. good luck, i hope its something simple and you dont come home to a tank problem.

Ron,

I live in Mesquite (not far from you) and took the day off tomorrow to finish my 55g to 140g conversion. Like the previous poster said, my cell number is in my profile and if someone can meet us there who has access (key) we could at least get inside and call you for status and directions.

Let me know if you need assistance I will be glad to help.

I hope all is well with the tank;

Thanks for the concern, offer's etc. I'm kinda out of luck as we have no family in Texas and my best friend who we usually leave a key with was already out of town for the holiday's, so noone has a key. It's like everything that could have went possibly wrong did go wrong, but___ in the end...I should have just left everything alone and it would have been ok.

Cheers,

Ron sorry to read about your tank and hope that you find things better than you are thanking now when you get home. Do you have a auto feeder since it seems no one has been coming by to feed your tank?

I too travel a lot and have found that remote monitoring and automation does not really replace someone going by and checking on our tanks. Again hope that everything works out.

How low was the SG on the tank. The fish can take a really low SG, we hypo them regularly and the corals can survive some drop also. Hopping fo rthe best.

ron do you have on of those key in garage door openers...if so i can stop by on my lunch or after work and take a look

Of course that's true, there is usually only a week or so gap that the tank is not checked. I've been ripped off by a lfs before that I had coming in bi-weekly, I paid for a list of services that was obviously not done, I lost a lot of stuff which made it even more costly. This however was a unique situation where a vacation was extened due to a death in the family. That and the problem was more self induced that anything else.

Cheers,

Not sure as the conductivity reading is all over the place and not reliable. I would trust the ph and orp numbers but without someone there at the tank, I have no idea on it's status.

Hey Pampee

Thanks for the offer, the keypad is locked and the emergency pull cord is removed and the door from the garage to the house is locked. There would probably be a small problem with the police when they responded to the alarm also.

Cheers,

Man that sucks i hope all is well. You still due in late tonight? said:
Hi Steve...

Still will be in later tonight , got held up a bit taking care of some last minute estate issues but still heading out in a few hours. I hope you don't mind baby-sitting that frag for a bit longer. :)

Cheers,

Man Ron, Hate to hear that. Wish there was something I could do seeing as you are right down the road. It is the same here in Wylie when they get a call from something. The cops have nothing better to do in small town. Hope it all works out for the best though.

Sorry to hear about the death in your family. Did I read where you are returning home tonight? Maybe things will be better than you think....

Man, I don't know if I would like having all of the monitoring equipment installed. I think I would rather just not know and deal with it when I get home than know something is possibly going on and be unable to do anything about it. :-/

I hope everything surprises you and is doing well, even under the circumstances. Maybe it will be an issue where you just have to raise the levels back to normal slowly and everything will be OK.
