I need your help!! Purple tang mouth turns white

My purple tang is very healthy. Eats well. All water parameters are great. I noticed 3 days ago there was a white spot next the gill. Three days later, this is what I saw. The whole one side of the face is white. What is it? it still swims actively and eats well. No sign of distress at all.

I'm no expert, so you might send a PM to Amanda (or Matt  )

but maybe he is just bumping the rocks a little hard to get the algae off?

It is the curse of the Powder Blue Tang! Quick, feed him some nori!!!

Seriously though, that is strange. I'd be interested in seeing what the prognosis is.

My hippo, a fat healthy pig, gets a white belly when he is pissed. After water changes, if I mess around with the tank or something his belly will get white. No spots or anything but like the color faded away from him.

I agree this is weird. I've never seen it before. It appears you have at least 4 tangs in there though so I'm guessing some aggression. Does he like your foxface? mybe he chomped on a poison fin??? I grasping at this point.

Good point but all my fish are getting along fine. Purple was the bully one before but no fish could bully it. I don't see any chasing around in the tank since my powder blue tang died 3 weeks ago.

Perhaps he turns albino?
