But I can't find a single reply other than the generic "Catch em and remove them.

I am planning on going today to pick up a pair of Clowns while my daughter is in town.

Bill has been nice enough to offer to help me pick out a good pair, and I don't know if introducing them into my tank which currently has two 2" Yellow Tail Damsels is such a good idea.

I have one Damsel which is very Docile and one which is like an african-cichlid. Very aggressive. Especially when food is involved.

Can the clowns hold their own against these guys or should I remove the damsels to make way for the clowns ?

Thanks
BD

Clowns are in the damsel family, but normally much more peaceful. Will the clowns be about the same size or smaller than the damsels? Generally, it is recommended to add the aggressive fish after the peaceful fish. Since you have had the setup for a few months, you could catch the damsels, move the rock around and then add the clown first followed by the damsels. Might reduce some of the terretorial aggression. Of course long term if you want a peaceful tank, now might be a good time to get credit on the damsels :)

Can you section off a peice of the tank or put a specimen container in there? This might let you see the reaction of the damsels. My guess it it won't be pretty. Damsels are evil!

If it were mee I would really try to catch and remove the damsels. They will be an issue adding almost anything!!

yes ...get them out while you have the chance...also the "load" should be even and smooth because of the removal...ill give ya some credit on the damsels...

or re arrange the rockwork if you cant get them out that kind of breaks up there territory

I'll probably pull them.

Thanks Bill. I'll take a nickel for both. LOL.

These are really excellent looking bright cobalt blue with bright yellow tails. About 2" tip to tip.

But, ever since I got them the #2 fish has been very adamant about keeping the #1 out of the cave complex on the left side. The real bad part is that the poor little guy can't get past the "Ghetto" to make it over to the right side of the tank which is VACANT. LOL

But, much like any child, and myself too, my daughter is fascinated with Powder Blues and Percs. (and ironically, rainbow wrasse and dwarf angels.)
Are the angels and clowns cohabitable ? I have read in general that the Angel family Dwarfs, Flames, and fish like the Coral Beauty are notorious nippers and a little on the aggressive side.

Could I keep Dwarf angel or Coral Beauty with a Pair of Percs, a Yellow Tang and a Wrasse in a 90?

Just a thought on my stock plan. They're all moderatle hardy as far as FO tanks go, and I'll probably just have a few mixed softies in there, some polyps and possibly an LTA when I am ready.

you should be able to eventually get that combination in the reef with no problems... only some of the Dwarf angels are known to be nippers... others are reasonably devoid of nipping incidents except the ocassional story. there are some like Lamarks, Swallowtail, bellus, watanabe that are considered TOTALLY reef safe. I have GOOD luck with the Bali version of a Coral beauty too....

i had to pull my 2 talbots damsels because they were attacking my 2 percs and i added my percs a couple weeks after the damsels. i had enough and caught them and gave them back to the store. do yourself a favor and just get rid of them while nothing else is in the tank. it's gonna take some effort to get them out, but it will be well worth the effort. i had to break down my entire tank to catch mine.

for the next several weeks of going to the store the damsels were still there. i swear they recognized me because they would come up to the glass and stare at me. they were probably cursing at me. i just knew they hated me.
