I just started my 55g. I have about 5#'s of live rock and a live sand bed. I had a 20g set up so I used the same sand and the filter cartridges in the 55g that I had in the 20. buy using the sand and filter media does this make the cycle of the tank time less when can I start adding a clean up crew or a chromis or two?? My tank will be a FWLR tank, no corals at least not yet. Please let me know'

Hi,

You need more LR imo. The amount you need depends on the type of LR you get and with what you like but I would have at least 50 - 60 lbs in there.

I am getting more live rock. I just do not have it yet. What I was wondering about was since the live sand and rock and filter have been used in my 20g for almost 9 months, will that help speed up the cycling part of the tank. Can I get a chromis or two or should I wait the 6-8 weeks before adding anything.

It will help but you will still most likely have a mini cycle or possibly a full cycle depending on if you add cured/uncured LR. You can't really put a time limit of the cycle, it's best to just test the water and see how the levels are going, if you don't see any cycle after a week then toss in a dead deli shrimp for a few day's and see how the bacteria handles it. IMO once the cycle finishes then add coral's, I would wait a while before any fish goes in.
