A baby Octopus briareus!

Got her this morning, shipped from Florida. Layla has dubbed her "Kalypso". Judging by the size she's only a few weeks old so as long as I do my part, Kalypso should be around for at least a year or so. She's currently living in a large kritter keeper inside my 75 gallon until she's big enough that I won't completely lose her in the tank.

That is so cool. Besides the work involved securing your tank so he can't get out is keeping an Octopus harder than keeping corals?

No. Getting a young/healthy octopus is the hardest part.

Her only friends will be serpent and brittle stars. There are a few corals in the tank for now, might move the challice and duncans so not to risk her being stung. Hopefully she doesn't decide my crocea clam is yummy later on when she gets bigger. I'm pretty sure briareus' use their extensive webbing to capture fish so I won't risk that, although there was a great thread on RC about a guy with a briareus in his reef that apparently never took out any fish.

I have an Abdopus aculeatus in the tank at work, and it has fish friends (GSM clown, Yellow Tang, Six-line Wrasse, 2 Firefish, Yellow Watchman Goby). They are primarily crab eaters as long as they are well fed.
