I broke my new anemone

Picked up a new anemone from mukymuk that was huge (about 12" or so relaxed) and the stress of the move caused it to split =D.

We'll see how it does in the new tank with time, seems to be doing well however.

Aw man, twice as many to keep an eye on now. :)

Yeah, I knew it was ripe.

Just for future reference, this is the original clone: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=66304

And the sell thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=94510

Might be cool to try to keep up with the "genealogy". Years from now it would be interesting to see how this one individual turned into possibly hundreds and outlives us all.

Good luck with them!

Progressing nicely, will probably be selling one of the splits in a little while. It ended up splitting in three, the smaller one is hiding on the back side of a rock currently, but the two big pieces seem happy and healthy.

These kinds of posts really get me disappointed. I bought a Sherman a couple months ago hoping it would split from the stress like what seems like EVERYONE else's does, and still nothing.

Ah see, you are keeping your water too well. You need to have it all terrible like me =D.

(seriously however, I drip acclimated over 1 hour and thirty minutes, water was proper levels of calcium, no nitrates/nitrites/ammonia and 8.3-8.4 PH)

I bought this guy VERY big, however, and he was additionally being stored in a secondary tank for some time which may have added to stress.

I feel your pain as well..............mine will spread out to over a 1 1/2' at times and it was a pretty small one when I got him. Had him in the tank over a year and a half almost and no signs of a split.

Great job on the splits for you and hope they all do well for you.

Well the splits seem to be doing great. Good feeding response, seem to be all closed up. I think I will be keeping two of them, but how soon could I responsibly say they are safe to be moved to a new tank and sold?

I generally don't try to sell a clone until it has obviously grown larger. 6-8 weeks about, but YMMV.

Be especially careful with small clones. They can die overnight without apparent cause (other anemone's in the same tank are fine). I would wait until it doubles in size at least.

Anemone's I have found are very resiliant creatures. There is a really good video on BRS that shows how fast they heal up after splitting, even when force split (cut).

FWIW, I would be interested in one of your splits when you are ready to sell since I'm in your same zip code I'm assuming i'm very close.

Hah, well considering I have no nice corals apart from a few small frags I'm not worried. I actually have a tank that would be improved by a giant herd of anemones. I will probably sell one of the splits, however.

Think its time to sell one of these. Largest two splits are slighty bigger/smaller than the original clone, small anemone is healthy and eating but keeps getting shaded by the larger clones and isn't growing as quickly.

Thats the "medium" up top, small bottom left, and the large one bottom right.
