Humidity + weather = HOT tank!

When I got up today, my reef was 83.7F and rising. The house was only 74F but humidity was the factor. I didn't think fans were going to cut it, so I sealed up the fish room and turned on the window A/C unit that cools it all summer. The 400w MH was shut off, as were the refugium lights.

While looking at the tank, I thought it looked really nice and serene without the middle bulb for once.

For the past few days, I've been scraping the back wall and overflows as it makes the tank look so much better. I still have more to go. One of the perks of doing this that I noticed was that there is less algae growing on the glass. The fish have less to gnaw on, and refocus their efforts on the LR and my snails (their shells look hideous with algal growth). The corals really pop out when you view the tank now.

The tank temperature is down to 82.2F, but now that the cold front blew in, I was able to shut off the a/c unit and open the door to the cooler garage area.

Bet that also helped the ph. I had the same issue today.. (I only got up to 81 but thats a full degree above the max for the last week). I heard my fan kick on for the first time in weeks.

I'm was having the same problem at 12:00 noon my 100 gallon was up to 81 and my 75 gallon was up to 82 and we turn on the AC also and we plug in fans on both and did a water change and open the doors and now were back down to 76.2 - 100 and 77.1 - 75. I thought about it all day and there was no reason for the temp to be so high. So I thought!

Thanks for the information Marc. Good luck keeping it down.
