How to hookup a seperate refug?

[I have helped my father get his 75 gallon tank going. We put an 18 gallon sump in on one side below and a 10 gallon refug on the other side. There is a support beam in between the two sides below the tank and are trying to figure out how to get water to flow between the two.

Any suggestions?? I have seen several people that have them seperate but not sure how it was done.

Thanks!]

[You can put a powerhead in the sump, to push water over into the refugium, and then let the refugium drain back into the sump via gravity.

In this senario, the refugium has to be high enough up (on a stand) so gravity will work.]

[I think what some people have done is place a "T" in the line from the tank to the sump. One side of the "T" goes to the sump, and the other side goes to the fuge. THe side thay goes to the fuge would have some sort of restriction to cause the majority of the flow to go to the sump but still allow some to go to the fuge. You will also need the fuge to be a little bit higher than the sump to get a siphon going from the fuge to the sump. I have an example attached (no poking fun of my art work). And I think Marc is the reigning expert on this stuff. my .02]

[That's a good idea with the T. I guess you have to do trial/error finding what level will work and not over flow your refug or let it go dry and lose siphon. Any recommendations on that??]

[you can make/buy an overflow box. there are some examples on Marc's site that you could make if you are a DIY'er]

[Yeah, i figured i would have to make an overflow box. Didn't know if there was any way around that though.]

[Another way if they are side by side can you drill a hole and put a bulhead in both connected by PVC? This would keep them at exactly the same level. You could also have a bulkhead in the back and run a U around the back of that center brace assuming it is open back there. That way you wouldn't have to drill a hole.

Ting off of the drain line is the best way to feed the fuge but you still have an issue that can be solved either as others have mentioned or the above way.]

[Good idea. I may have to see about pvc between the two just to keep the levels right. Having the T sounds like the best idea, though i'm not sure how to do that with the flex hose that the overflow came with haha. I might have to trade my dad for a pvc one that i got with my setup since i won't be doing a refug (fish only setup).]

[Cut the flextube and install a PVC Tee. The run either hard or flextube from the outputs of the T to the destination. YOu may want to put ball valves in one or both legs to control the flow.]
