How to cut out baffles in sump?

[I have this sump http://www.melevsreef.com/acrylics/sumps/sump_52g.html

I want to remove the baffles as I don't really need them and they are taking up space needed for my fuge. I was thinking I could take a dremmel and cut the baffles about 1/2 inch from the outer wall. Will this weaken the sump?]

[Mitch the dremel will work fine. I'm sure expert Marc will chime in but it will weaken the sump. The question is does it matter? Those baffles act as a cross brace so cutting them will weaken it some but I would not think enough to be an issue unless you plan on having the water level high at which point you will probably get some bowing with the 1/4" acrylic.

You could always put a crossbrace across the top if you need to but as I said unles you are running this thing full you should be fine.]

[What will you do to keep bubbles out of the draining bulkhead? I'm pretty sure that was plumbed with an external pump.]

[Yes it was plumbed for external return pump and skimmer. I am using neither. With 3 durso's draining/overflowing there is little to no bubbles anyway. After hooking up my submersed return and in sump skimmer, I don't have a lot of room left. That extra foot of space the baffles take up would make a nice fuge area, or at least open the other side up so I can put the fuge there.]

[I think it should be fine. A dremel would be the best tool that allows good control. It'll take some time.]
