How to clean up images - Diy with photoshop 7.0

[IMO resize should be the last thing you do.
And change of the resolution.

In a RAW or jpg image fresh from the camera would like photoshop to adjust as many pixels as possible, you defeat this purpose when resizing first as it will remove needed pixels.]

[Well, I've never used RAW. ;)

I do tend to resize first, but I'll try the other way around in the future and see if that makes any difference in my results. Thanks for the tip.]

[I was wondering when you were going to make a page like this.
Thanks alot Marc for effort you put forth to educate us
 :rasp: ]

[Thanks for the tip...
I tried it out on a pic of my ricordia... it actually looks good now.

[I use a program called Pixia. This program does many of the same things photoshop does..... but it's FREE !!]

[Very nice. :) One of the things I try to do while editing is to attempt to match reality color-wise. Sometimes the program will spit out a color that really is off, so I will adjust things accordingly to match what my eyes see in the tank.]

[Good stuff! Thanks for posting that, it really does help those of us who have the tools, but no clue how to use them.

I call this "life from the left side":

After:

The end result is much closer to what things look like to the naked eye.]

[That's looking better already. It looks a little too vibrant to me, but that is something you'll be able to improve upon as you do it more and more. Notice the colors of the clownfish which seem too vivid - at least on my monitor. I think that image has a little too much red to it.

One guy on RC always posted images that were really dark, and several of us mentioned that to him. He decided to view the thread from his work computer and was shocked out how dark they looked. He then learned about calibrating his monitor from some of the photography experts on RC, and his images look much better now.]

[I just calibrated my monitor and found that my red gamma level was in fact a bit off. I agree, those clown fish look too vibrant..I'll tweak the picture a bit more and shave some red off the top. :D]

[Another really handy button on Photoshop is the Shadow/Highlight adjustement under the Adjustments menu (its down toward the bottom of the menu). You just hit it once and it lightens up all the shadows perfectly. Great for non reeef photography too.]

[Kristi, I just checked my program and don't see that option under Adjustments. Can you be super specific? ;)]

[Not totally on subject, but I just started using a free program called Picasa to organize, and do some real basic editing with pics. For a free program, it's got a really nice interface.

Picasa]

[Marc, I'm using Photoshop CS which is the newest one so maybe the older ones don't have it. I know on mine it is under Adjustment toward the bottom third of the menu. When I get home tonight I'll pull it up and give you more specifics. It is definitely my favorite feature because it automatically adjusts the brightness of the shadows and highlights almost perfectly every time!]
