How to Clean This

I have a sump on my 150, with one of those pre-filter micron bags.

I was wondering how do i clean it ?

I tried rinsing it off, but its still dirty.

Thanks

Take it off, and put it in a bucket. Pour in a water-bleach mixture of about 10 parts water to 1 part bleach (It can go stronger if the staining is REALLY bad)

Let that soak overnight. It SHOULD bring it back to a brilliant clear white.

Drain the water/bleach mixture off. Let it dry completely, then soak it in clear water. Use some de-chlorinator. Keep rinsing/drying it until there is NO hint of bleach smell...

I tend to go to an extreme with this, and make sure they dry in direct sunlight, as direct sunlight deactivates bleach/chlorine as well...

I put mine with bleach in the washing machine on the gentle cycle.
When finished, I run it through the rinse cycle again.

I just throw mine in the Washing machine with a little bleach. I use the double rinse cycle. Then I use them in the tank.

I like the use in the sun dried version.

Are there any other thoughts on this subject. I never really gave it much thought.

I just through mine in the washer with no bleach! It stays a little dirty looking but performs like day 1 and I have no worries about any bleach!

By the way you should clean them very often!!! I let mine go 3 days at most and usually every other day. I swap between 2. Like any sponge or mechanical filter if left running for long they become nittrate factories!

I would do the 10:1 water Bleach idea that Serk offered. You can use dechlorinator OR you can make up a very heavy Salt concentration put the sock in that and put it out in the sunlight for a day or so. I DO NOT recommend using the washing machine as there's not a single one out there that completely removes the soap residue. Thats not a chemical you want in your tank. I always err on the side of caution and with this hobby, not doing so can be very costly.
