I posted this link so you know which membrane im talking about.

I believe this has a lot to do with initial water quality. When I notice my tds rising up...I change the filter. Right now, im getting about 17 ro water before di.

You should be changing out your D.I. more often than your RO membrane. I usually change my carbon and sediment filters out with the DI. But Steve is right usually you can see you TDS rising on the reading in the water that comes out of the RO membrane before the DI filter. If you start to see that number rise you know it is time to change the membrane. If you don't it will start using up the DI cartridge fast. I have two, the one on my tank refill system needs changing about once a year. Of course I estimate that about 3000 gallons a year goes through that membrane.[/list]

I run a dual di system. I watch my TDS out my first di. When it matches my RO output, I move my end filter up the line and place a new one on the end. This allows me to max. my DI filters.

I change the prefilters every 6 months, and the DI annually. I'm still using the same membrane and it is almost 4 years old. They are rated to last 3 to 5 years in most cases.
