How much flow is TOO much flow?

Well I picked up a MJ1200 the other day and added it to my 55 gal tank making the total amount of PH in the tank to 3 MJ1200s & 1 MJ900 for a total of 1115 g/hr (not including the MJ1200 I have on my remora skimmer) or 20x flow (if you use 55gal for the tank; or 31x if you use 35 gal actual water). Suffice to say I have FLOW! After much tweaking of the outputs I no longer have a sandstorm.

The SPS frags that I aquired seem to be happy but my leathers are pissed! Plus my RBTA wasn't speaking to me after I placed the last MJ1200 in the tank last night and today seemed like it was being pushed around alot from the intake flow of the 1200. I finally had to turn off the MJ1200 that was bothering my RBTA and further tweaking of the outputs on the others mostly everyone is happy except my Devil's green hand (which I will move to a lower flow area afte Jacob picks up the large toadstool).

So the questions after the long setup is...

I am nuts with all this flow? Do I have too much? How much flow do you run in your tank & what do you have in it?

Cheers!

I used to have about 700gph (return pump), 800gph (Tunze Turbelle), and 295gph (MJ 1200) in my 55g. The trick is placing the correct coral in the correct flow zone.

Your corals have to get used to the current, and or you may have to adjust their positioning. Odds are they'll perk up in a few days.

If the Rose BTA really doesn't like the change, it'll move.

As stated it depends. I have over 50x in my SPS tank and it's not to much. Your softies won't like that much flow though. Hence the difficulties of keeping a mixed tank!
