How long can you keep BRS supplements once mixed?

Hey all,

I had a mini-crash several months ago and lost my fledgling supply of SPS (tank sitter topped off with salt instead of fresh :x ), fortunately, my fish, LPS, and softies survived (though some were a bit worse for the wear).

Anyway, I am finally ready to start dosing alk, ca, and mag to support my newly aquired SPS frags (thanks Ben [toaster77])! I have Bulk Reef Supply alk and ca almost 3/4 gallon and mag even more and I hate to dump them out. They have been in their plastic jugs with attached one ounce pumps for about 4 months. The pumps don't create a perfectly air tight seal, but they are close to it. Does anyone use these products and, if so, how long do you think you can safely keep and use them?

Thanks for any input,

I wouldn't have any problem using them if they have been in the pump bottles that long. Just shake them up well. If you notice a lot of debris that does not go back into solution, then I would probably strain that stuff out.

Shoot andrew at BRS a note to make sure, but I don't see a problem with it.

i agree with dave the supplements should be alright to start using just shake as stated before as most premade supplements sit on store shelves prob for a long time

hey jimm,

i agree with those guys, your two-part solutions should be just fine - sodium carbonate (ALK) and calcium chloride (Ca) are salts that form very stable ions in solution, as well as the Mg salts. they might be stable for years if not longer :) hope those frags do well for you - keep me posted on how they do!
